This brings me to the question that is asked on page 12- "Will computers replace teachers?" (Roblyer, & Doering, 2010) In the video it states that "by 2013, a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computational capabilities of the brain." (DYKwehavechanged, 2009) HOWEVER, I do not feel that a computer will take the place of a teacher-- but I DO feel that it will take a teacher who is techno-savy and relates to children to play a huge role in teaching the importance and the advantages of technology in our everyday lives.
Technology is constantly changing. Throughout my lifetime I have seen many changes in technology! (And I'm not that old!) On page 23, Table 1.5 is a chart of the "Emerging Trends" in technology. I feel this chart sums it all up. Technology is changing and so must we. It is shaping our lives today. Either learn it, or you'll be left behind. This video, to me, is a perfect example of the many "phases" of technology throughout our lives.

To think about how we are preparing our students for things we have no clue about scares me to death. But then I quickly think back to my teachers and how they did the exact same thing as we are doing now.
ReplyDeleteI too agree that a computer will not take the place of the teacher. Technology is a tool for a teacher at this point. I would not want to think about losing that human interaction with students, especially the ones where school is the only positive adult interaction they have.
I am very hopeful, for the sake of our students that the teaching field becomes more competitive in the field of technology. I think the more skills a teacher has to bring to the classroom the better it will be.
I really enjoyed this video. I actually watched it when I was trying to figure out which video to put on my blog. Some of the facts really shocked me! It is crazy to think this video was made in 2009 and of all the advances since then. I love that technology is being integrated to much into our daily lives, and it is becoming so accessible for everyone! I cannot imagine a classroom without teachers. I agree that this will probably never happen. Can you imagine how disciplined those children would have to be to get any kind of education without a teacher? Like Crystal stated, it would be very sad for those children that do not have positive role models at home. The last paragraph you wrote about how technology is shaping our lives is such a true statement. If we don't "jump on the band wagon and go with it" we will be left behind! It frightens and excites me, at the same time, that we are preparing our students for jobs and technology that does not even exist yet. I believe that is why critical thinking skills are so important, and some teachers that mainly focus on just standards and on the surface information are truly doing a disservice to their students. I'm looking forward to next week's blog!
